Selling to trade, retailers and industry
16 March 2005

Russell Fletcher has been working for SCA Timber Supply Ltd for 3 years. Through training he has been awarded an Institute of Wood Science Timber Studies Award and an IWSc Certificate. His job is customer-facing, sometimes involving him in exhibitions and other events at home and abroad.

"After university I was working at for a local Job Centre but after 6 months I was bored and wanted more from my job. I had never really considered a career in the timber industry before I responded to an advert in the local paper for SCA. Although 'selling timber' may not sound glamorous it can be challenging and I enjoy going to work in the morning. I still learn something new everyday. There are quite a few perks involved: I visit customers, go to Timber Trade dinners and I've been abroad to our sawmills in Sweden twice. I would recommend the trade to anyone as it is full of good people and a lot of characters. There is also the potential to develop your skills and your career if you are willing to put the effort in."
